One of the major specializations of Jesik Consulting is to test physical, mechanical and other required characteristics of construction materials. The list below represents the areas of expertise and activities that are currently in the portfolio of Jesik Consulting.

Slab and Footing Inspections

Slab and footing are the essential parts of foundations that provide solid and stable surface and help persist buildings longer. Slab and footing Inspections are done with the main purpose of the estimate that foundation is constructed correctly and follows building codes and standards. If not performed properly, foundation issues could take place and lead to significant issues with the construction process and a building itself.

Reinforcing Steel Inspections

Reinforcing steel is a network of steel bars of various diameters and lengths which is mechanically bonded together with the concrete. It provides additional strength to the concrete. Reinforcing steel inspections allows checking the placement of the reinforcing steel in accordance with approved plans documenting that the reinforcing steel is set securely.

OWTS (Septic Systems) Installation Inspections

OWTS is the acronym for “onsite wastewater treatment systems”. OWTS is also known as “Septic Systems”. The inspection required for the OWTS installed will be different based on the type and complexity of it.

Perimeter Drain Inspections

A perimeter drain system is built for each house to prevent water to be adsorbed by the building’s basement. The main purpose of it is to attract accumulated water in the soil and to carry it away from the basement of your house. As time goes on, drainage pipes of a perimeter drain system often get worse, leading to the failure of the whole system. Perimeter drain inspection allows clean the entire system preventing the problems with the basement and house flooding.

Structural Steel / Welding Inspections

Structural steel and accompanied welding are core elements of a skeleton of a building. Inadequate welding or steel parts misalignment can vastly alter the structural strength of a building. The inspection of this elements is an essential service for building constructions specifically for critical structures that must have enough resistance to seismic events, such as schools and hospitals.

Fill placement

A fill is a volume of earthen material that is placed and compacted in depressions. In most of the cases it consists of soil, in some cases it might have inclusions of rock, aggregate, or crushed paving material. The special inspection must be conducted to determine if the used material and the maximum lift thickness comply with geotechnical report in place.

Density / Moisture Testing

Moisture content has a major role in soil compaction for broad range of the materials. For field compaction prediction purpose, it is crucial to know the moisture content and density from laboratory testing.

Open Excavation Observations

Open excavation is one the most dangerous operations in the construction process. The risks come from cave-ins, falling loads, hazardous atmospheres and the usage of heavy equipment. The observations of excavation with its specifications and systems in place as well as monitoring of heavy equipment usage and PPE utilization significantly reduce risks of personnel injury and other hazards.

Concrete / Masonry / Grout Testing

Concrete, masonry and grout are the major components of constructions and building in terms of volume. Thus, proper testing of these components is especially important to check that materials meet specific requirements and to ensure that project is not delayed due to related issues.

Pier Drilling Observations

Pier drilling is a method of deep holes drilling in the ground for constructing of concrete cylinder-shaped foundations. It is extremely popular at locations where the ground is not stable. Typically, a pre-placement and placement observations are conducted. Pier drilling observations is performed with the main purpose to monitor if correct drilled piers diameter, their rebar structure and depth are aligned with the documentation.
